About Adopt A Family
The Adopt A Family program, which begins each year in early September and runs through the end of December, has been serving those in need across Michigan since 1993. In the 30-year history of this special program, hope and joy – along with toys, clothing and meals – have been brought to children, seniors and veterans during the season that is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Sponsors (individuals, families, teams, organizations, businesses) adopt families for the holidays, providing at least one new toy and one new outfit for each child in the family, as well as a special holiday meal. Many sponsors provide much more!

By directly sponsoring a family, senior or veteran, you get a personal, hands-on experience in making the holidays better for someone else.
Using their profile information and wish list, you do the shopping and deliver the items to your adoptee! Families range in size from a single parent or grandparent with one child to families with multiple children. Sponsors are able to pick a family, senior, or veteran based on their profile once they've registered.
Adopt A Family welcomes cash donations. Each cash donation is combined with other gifts and benefits families, seniors, and veterans who were not directly adopted for the holidays.
Local retailers give the VOA deep discounts on items to allow your contribution to reach even further into our community. Your gift of any amount will help ensure a wonderful holiday for someone in need.
Every Donation Counts!
- $150 provides a family of 4 with a complete holiday experience of warm clothes, new toys and a Christmas dinner
- $500 provides 25 children with a gift item
- $1,000 provides 33 children with warm winter clothing
Donations to the Volunteers of America are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
